The Blood of Dawnwalker Skill Tree: All Three Trees Explained
The Blood of Dawnwalker has three ability trees: Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism, each ending in an Ultimate Perk with its own achievement. Abilities are split between Sword Skills for the day and Claw Skills for the night, you can equip three passive abilities at once, and a single ability levelled to full potential unlocks the Mastery achievement.
The three trees
Swordmastery is human melee. It is the safest route and the only one that works identically in day and night content.
Witchcraft covers utility and soul magic, including abilities such as Compel Soul. It is the most flexible tree for quests and the one that opens dialogue and exploration options.
Vampirism is night-focused power. It has the highest ceiling in the game and the weakest daytime performance.
How abilities are structured
Two details matter more than the tree names. First, your action set is split by form: Sword Skills belong to the human day, and Claw Skills belong to the vampire night, so a build that only invests in one tree leaves half the cycle underpowered.
Second, abilities are not uniform. Some are passive and simply apply once equipped in the Active Ability panel. Some do not consume a common slot at all, which makes them effectively free. Others are charged abilities that cost a percentage of your health per use, and several are explicitly restricted: some cannot be used on bosses, where the boss instead takes damage from the attempt.
That last category is the reason build planning here is not just "stack damage". A charged ability that costs a quarter of your health needs armour and sustain behind it, and an ability that fails against bosses needs a fallback for the finale.
Ultimate perks
Each tree ends in an Ultimate Perk, and each one has an achievement attached.
Which tree to pick first
Beginners: Swordmastery
It works in every situation and does not depend on the day and night cycle. Perfect Block chains also feed the Untouchable achievement, so it pays into completion as well as survival.
Quest-focused players: Witchcraft
Utility abilities open dialogue and exploration options the other trees cannot, which matters in a game where the story is the main course.
Experienced players: Vampirism
Enormous night-time power with a genuinely harder day game. It also makes the Shadow Roamer requirement trivial, since that asks you to travel 1000 metres using vampiric abilities.
Splitting investment across all three trees is the most common way to end up weak in the late game. Pick one, reach its Ultimate Perk, then branch with the leftovers.
Level order notes
- Reaching Level 50 unlocks the Glass Ceiling achievement, so plan a long run if you want full completion.
- Passives are a separate economy from active abilities, and three slots is the cap. Filling all three is its own achievement.
- Mastery requires one ability at full potential, which is far easier on a single narrow build than on a broad one.
- Because the finale accounts for which allies and powers you bring, a focused tree is also the version the ending is most likely to acknowledge.
