The Blood of Dawnwalker Walkthrough: Prologue Quest Order

Updated 2026-09-26

There is no single correct route through The Blood of Dawnwalker, but the prologue is the one stretch where order genuinely matters, because quests are time-sensitive and a day is never long enough for all of them. Prioritise the family and village quests you can reach in the same region, skip the three side quests that do not feed the story, and never waste segments on travel.

How quests spend your time

Before you plan a route you need to read the quest log correctly.

  • A clock icon next to a quest means it is time-sensitive and will expire if you leave it too long.
  • An hourglass with a number tells you how many segments that objective costs.
  • A day holds eight segments, and night holds another eight, so a full day and night is sixteen actions.

Two traps cost far more time than players expect. Getting caught stealing burns four segments with the guards, which is a quarter of your day for nothing. Learning a skill at certain shrines also consumes segments during the prologue, so check before you interact.

The prologue route

1

Start with the family

Coen's opening errand in Laslea Glen sets the tone before the clock starts to bite. It is also the cheapest content in the game, so clearing it first gives you a clean segment budget for everything else.

2

Batch quests by region, not by reward

The valley is large and travel is free, but objectives inside a single village are close together. Finishing one area before moving on is the single biggest saving in the prologue.

3

Take the time-sensitive quests first

Anything with a clock icon outranks anything without one. Side content that has no clock will still be there after the prologue.

4

Leave shrine skills for later

Some shrines charge segments to unlock. In the prologue that trade is usually bad, because the same segments buy story progress.

5

Do not fight what you can talk past

Several early confrontations, including the officer waiting at the river, can be walked away from. A fight costs segments and potions for nothing the story needs.

Quests you can safely skip

Three prologue quests are marked optional for a reason, and skipping them frees segments for the route above.

  • Someone Needs A Lesson lets Coen step between a villager and his father and shows how other families live, but it does not pay into the wider plot.
  • On The Run, the search for Iorgu's pig, is character colour about bloodshed and how humans are treated as livestock. It is worth reading about later, not worth a slot now.
  • Into The Den is not time-sensitive at all. Come back once the prologue is over.

Decisions that matter, and ones that do not

The first real choice in the game is whether Coen force-feeds his mother Esme at his father Pieter's direction. It feels enormous and it is not: the outcome does not carry long-term consequences, so pick whichever version of Coen you want to play and move on.

The sibling conversations are similar. Telling the children to stop complaining earns Yanna's approval, and the fishing conversation with Lunka and Mirto branches depending on whether you level with them, but these are texture rather than consequence. Spend your attention on quest order instead.

Time-sensitive does not mean "do it immediately". It means the quest has an expiry, and the expiry is generous enough that a badly ordered day is the real threat, not a single slow decision.

Is there a correct quest order in The Blood of Dawnwalker?▾
No. There is no single correct path, but the prologue is time-sensitive enough that batching quests by region and taking clock-marked quests first saves segments.
How many segments does a day have?▾
Eight segments per day and eight per night, and objectives spend segments when you complete them.
What wastes the most time?▾
Getting caught stealing costs four segments with the guards, and shrine skills can charge segments during the prologue.
Can I come back for skipped quests?▾
Yes. Quests without a clock marker, such as Into The Den, are still available after the prologue.
Do dialogue choices cost time?▾
No. Conversation is free, so you can explore the writing without spending your budget.
