The chain starts with collecting herbs for Coen's mother. The step that matters comes after: choose to spend some time with Anca rather than moving straight on, which is what triggers her prologue quest, Page Turner.
Page Turner: collect every herb, then help with her wounds
Pick up all of her herbs from the storm before you do anything else, then take the option to help treat her wounds. This is the earliest flirt opportunity in the game and it sets the tone for the route.
Echoes of Silenced Bells: your choices are free
This quest has branches that feel significant but do not touch the romance. Play it however you want to.
Between the Words: do not miss the flirts
This is where the route gets fragile. Make the tea when Anca asks you to, and take every flirting option the quest offers, because the missable opportunities are concentrated here.
Stronger Than Achilles: follow her lead
Accept rather than deflect when the quest gives you the choice. Refusing here is the most common way players describe losing momentum in the route.
Back at the inn: declare your feelings
The romance scene triggers from the late conversation at the inn. Keep a segment available on the day it appears so you are not forced to postpone it.
What does not matter
Two quests that look like they should carry weight do not. The outcome choices in Echoes of Silenced Bells and in Where Old Devils Lie leave Anca's romance untouched, so you can resolve both however your version of Coen would.
That is consistent with how the romance system works overall: presence and consistency matter, and most individual branching choices do not.
What the route is actually about
Anca's romance is the one players describe most often as unresolved rather than triumphant. She is older than Coen, she has a complicated past, she knows his family, and by the end of the prologue he is a Dawnwalker on top of everything else. Players consistently report her brushing off his flirting early on, which reads as hesitation rather than rejection given how much has changed around her.
The structure of the game works against the relationship too. A 30-day deadline is not much time for a relationship to bloom, and Coen's immortality against Anca's mortality is a problem the story does not pretend to solve. The route lands closer to two people tied together by trial and trauma than to a classic RPG ending, and that ambivalence is what most players remember about it.
Because the quest outcomes do not gate this romance, Anca's route is the one where you can simply answer honestly. If you enjoy the writing, this is the route that rewards playing it rather than optimising it.
